The production design of the itself is a standout. It looks like a real insect—a mechanical hercules beetle that skitters across the ground and latches onto the user. It is one of the most iconic transformation trinkets in Rider history.
When a high-level Worm attack occurs at a warehouse, Kagami tries desperately to defend a civilian. Outmatched and beaten, Kagami sees the Kabuto Zecter—the sentient mechanical beetle required to activate the armor—arrive on the battlefield. Kagami reaches out for it, begging for the power to fight. In a heartbreaking moment of rejection, the Zecter flies past his hand.
To combat this, a secret organization called ZECT (Z组织) has developed the Masked Rider System. We are introduced to Arata Kagami, a well-meaning, clumsy ZECT field agent working undercover as a restaurant server. Kagami wants nothing more than to protect people, but he lacks the raw power to do so. Enter Souji Tendo.

Perhaps the most famous gimmick in the franchise, Clock Up allows Riders and Worms to move at speeds so fast that time appears to stand still. The first episode’s use of rain droplets freezing in mid-air while Kabuto battles a Worm remains an iconic piece of cinematography. 5. That First Transformation
