"Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom" is a 1975 political art horror film directed and co-written by the legendary Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. It is an adaptation of the Marquis de Sade’s infamous 1785 novel The 120 Days of Sodom , but with a crucial historical twist: Pasolini transplants the story from 18th-century France to the final days of World War II, specifically the Fascist puppet state known as the Republic of Salò (1943–1945) in northern Italy.
