At the time, the game was hailed for its excellent visuals, with some of the best backgrounds and sprites on the Genesis system. Mickey's animations were particularly impressive: he would jog along happily, sway his hips when idle, become visibly terrified when being chased, and teeter precariously on platform edges. The gameplay was pure side-scrolling platforming, with Mickey using his "butt jump" to bounce on enemies (pressing down on the d-pad or the jump button) and collecting projectiles like apples to throw at distant foes.
