Volume 1 introduces Hanamichi Sakuragi, a towering, red-haired delinquent with a terrible track record in romance. Having just been rejected by his 50th girl in middle school—who confessed she was in love with a basketball player—Sakuragi enters Shohoku High School loathing the sport entirely.
