Despite its historical importance, the Gustav Ende system has been discontinued. Since 2007, it has been replaced by uniform national standards to prevent fragmentation within the market, and its last edition was published in 2003. Additionally, the system is specifically intended for utility construction and commercial buildings and is for residential construction, heavy industry, or offshore projects, nor does it integrate with modern BIM (Building Information Modeling) methods as seamlessly as other systems.
