Ara Soysa was produced during a vibrant period for Sri Lankan cinema. The film is a remake of the 1981 Tamil romantic comedy (transl. “Go Today, Come Tomorrow”) written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj. That original film featured Bhagyaraj himself, Radhika, Pazhanisamy and G. Ramli, and was praised for its light‑hearted depiction of three friends chasing the same girl.
Using three different source tapes (a 1985 Betamax from a private collector, a 1992 TV broadcast recording, and a damaged theatrical print), editors have re-inserted 11 minutes of lost footage. This includes the crucial subplot where the landowner burns the farmer’s hut—a scene missing from all previous online versions.
Released on October 26, 1984, Ara Soyza arrived during the golden era of slapstick and situational comedy in Sri Lankan cinema. Produced by Dayasena Perera for Samagi Films, the movie was heavily inspired by the classic Tamil film Indru Poi Naalai Vaa .
The film is available on the VOD.LK streaming platform, which often provides restored versions of classic Sinhala cinema.
