The rise of social media has led to a proliferation of online fitness spaces, where individuals can share their workouts, routines, and fitness journeys with a global audience. This paper critically examines the ways in which social media platforms, such as YouTube and Instagram, shape and are shaped by the performance of identity and embodiment in online fitness spaces. Specifically, it explores how fitness influencers and content creators use social media to present and negotiate their identities, and how these presentations are received and interacted with by their audiences. Through a critical discourse analysis of online fitness content, this paper argues that social media platforms play a significant role in shaping the ways in which we think about and engage with fitness, identity, and embodiment.
